#08 4 OBJECTIONS TO SPEAKING IN OTHER TONGUES
Objections to Tongues and the bible answers
Acts 16:16-19 And it came to pass as we went to prayer, a certain damsel POSESSED with the SPIRIT OF DIVINATION met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying
OBJECTION 1 God can use any gift he wants. God is God and he can use any gift he sees fit but he choose tongues as a sign.In each case where folks received the holy Ghost they spoke in tongues
OBJECTION 2 The Gifts disappeared from the early churchThe early church began in power. in which the souls received the spirit with the manifestation of other tongues. The gifts declined but it was not God bringing doing away with Gifts. it was the people who had grown cold and indifferent to the things of God that caused the loss of gifts. “Because the love of many had waxed cold” The Lord rebuked the church for its backslidden condition (Revelation 2:4-5).Gods gift are spiritual spiritual things are eternal. The gift like the giver of the gift is eternal. and the gifts are given to govern, unite, empower and build. We need the gifts.
OBJECTION 3THE WORDS BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST are unique Jesus mentioned the term several times, The disciples were baptized in the Holy Ghost. Man has isolated this event as one that is separated form the new birth. However If we take Jesus teachings we see that God promised salvation to those who call and believe on his name. Salvation accompanies the Holy Ghost for salvation with power. sure there are many who believed and then some years later received the Gift. I was one! I believed but for me true conversion and salvation coming with power came the day I was filled with the Holy Ghost.Born of water and Spirit. When we see a man born of the spirit, this si the second birth. Its life changing and real. For this to happen first believe then recieve (John 7)
OBJECTION 4Nothing is said about the Samaritans speaking in other tongues when they received the Holy Ghost in (Acts 8:1-25).And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, saying give me also this POWER that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy GhostWhat did Simon see? He must have seen something visible and external and audible. It must have been tongues as tongues was a common sign to unbelivers including Simon.Adam Clarke (1762-1832) A Methodist. It was the miraculous gifts of the Spirit which were thus communicated- the speaking of other tongues, and these extraordinary qualifications which are necessary for the preaching of the gospelH B Hackett ((1808-1875) Baptist. They received the Holy Spirit as the author of endowments conferred upon them.Among these many have been the gift of the tongues (See Acts 2:4 10:46) and also that of prophesy as well as the power of working miracles, (commentary on original text of the Acts of the Apostles 1858)
