The Imponderables of Mary
hen the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and the Baby, who was lying in the manger. 17After they had seen the Child, they spread the message they had received about Him. 18And all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things and PONDERED them in her heart. (Luke 2:15.17).
But Mary treasured all these things, giving careful thought to them and pondering them in her heart. (AMP) But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them (Christian Standard Bible).
The lost art of pondering, meditating, considering, giving careful attention!
The imponderables presented were of impossible things, contradictory things. Jesus himself was a contradiction Hebrews 12:3 tells us, ‘For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.’ ‘Contra’ meaning against, ‘diction’ what was spoken. He was a contradiction. How could a man be God! How could a man be the son of God when all other men were sons of humans? How could he save others they said yet he cannot save himself?
There are many great imponderables in this account of the birth of Jesus let us consider some.
How could Mary give birth to one who was her Father?
How could her child be older than her?
How could Mary’s Son be Marys Creator?
How could the flesh person born of Mary be Davids Son according to the flesh Romans 1;3 but he was also Davids Lord (Psalm 110:1)
How could the God who made all things be suddenly in time be made of a woman (John 1:1)
His name was called the Word (Revelations 19:13) and the Word was God (John 1;1)
Many teach that God and Jesus were in the beginning. But in this account of his birth he came in the flesh two thousand years ago.
Imponderables worth pondering!
